From the
American Library Association's website: "Banned Books Week (BBW) is an annual event celebrating the freedom to read and the importance of the First Amendment. Held during the last week of September, Banned Books Week highlights the benefits of free and open access to information while drawing attention to the harms of censorship by spotlighting actual or attempted bannings of books across the United States.
Imagine how many more books might be challenged—and possibly banned or restricted—if librarians, teachers, and booksellers across the country did not use Banned Books Week each year to teach the importance of our First Amendment rights and the power of literature, and to draw attention to the danger that exists when restraints are imposed on the availability of information in a free society."
Hosted by I am a Reader, not a Writer & I read banned books!! =D
My thought's & Picks:
WOAH @_@ I had no idea so many books that i loved have been challenged or banned. Like seriously, one of my
FAVORITE YA books was challenged and thankfully it won! ^_^
But check out the lists on goodreads, there are
TONS of books in these situations...=/
*POOR BOOKS*
I am giving away
1 of 3 books that I
LOVE with a passion and would
NOT want
banned or challenged! They are...
I LOVE the hunger games but i guess peple dont like kids killing other kids [even though that happens in third world countries] and we should be forewarned about issues as these in our struggling times, but u know?
AH!!!UGLIES was challenged because it was showing girls that outer beauty is important...WRONG! That is the exact opposite of what the book & series are about..hmp >_< If it weren't for that book I would not be reading @ ALL!!
and Speak. It has an AWESOME troubled premise and I LOVE that she can't even hide from herself because the reality is that the truth hurts!

One of my favorite books happens to be Speak, it is such a wonderful read.
ReplyDeleteI think that banning books is very stupid. I have read books that have been previously banned and they were wonderful.

Same here! Speak was incredibly powerful, and I saved it for my daughter to read someday <3
ReplyDeleteThank you for another sweet giveaway :)

Uglies!
ReplyDeleteBanning books is wrong:)
I would pick Uglies b/c I've already read the other two. :D I think that banning books is wrong. I don't think they should have ever started doing it. I don't see the point.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!!!!!!!!!1
I haven't read any of the three books listed here, so I'm kind of glad to hear about it. It's frustrating to know that a book was banned for superficial reasons -- when the reader clearly didn't get a full understanding of the work before deciding it was wrong (like with "Uglies"). I think that they're trying to... I dunno, weaken the youth or something. There are a lot of "banned" titles that I read in middle school as assigned reading in class (and I went to a Catholic school), and you know, I'm fine. I'm a well-adjusted adult without any head problems or tendencies to kill people.
ReplyDeleteI'll never understand why some of these things are decidedly too harsh for kids to read or whatever else. Too dark? The world is dark. Might as well be horrified while reading about it than dealing with it in real life...
Sorry about the double-post... I forgot to list the book I'd want? No preference. :)
ReplyDeleteI would choose Speak. Banning books is wrong you should have a right to choose everyone enjoys different books and that is something that is great.
ReplyDeleteI would choose The Uglies. I do not like the idea of banned books and think there should be a choice.
ReplyDeleteI would choose The Uglies. Banning books is wrong. I believe some young people are not ready for some books, but banning should not happen. julierupert@gmail.com
ReplyDeleteI'd like to read Speak.
ReplyDeleteOn the subject of banning books...I don't feel people have the right to dictate what others read. If you're offended by certain topics, then stay away from the books that have them. If you are a parent, you should monitor what YOUR child is reading. Read the book yourself, and decide whether or not the subject matter is suitable for YOUR child's current age and maturity level. You do not have the right to take that book away from anybody else's child. Not everyone's views are the same. Books with "controversial" topics can educate, and often relate to many of their readers.
I would choose Speak! Thanks for the giveaway. I absolutely don't believe in banning books.
ReplyDeleteI would choose The Hunger Games!
ReplyDeleteBanning books is a violation of free speech - you always have a choice whether to read a book or not!
Thanks,
Leanne
I would choose Speak! I am against the banning of books. Thanks for the hop!
ReplyDeleteThanks for this amazing giveaway - I would love to win Uglies! I don't think any books should be banned!
ReplyDeleteSpeak! I'm completely against banning books.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for the chance to win! I'd like to win Uglies.
ReplyDeleteI am completely against banning books. If you don't like a book or don't agree with it, doesn't mean you should ban it so others can't read it. Just don't read it. It's as simple as that!
I'd choose ttyl! I am very interested in the epistolary style of reading and would love to read this book! Thanks for the chance to win! =)
ReplyDeleteI would choose Speak. I don't agree with banning books

I would choose Uglies. Banning books is crazy! People should be able to choose what they want to read or what they want their children to read or not read.
ReplyDeleteI would want Uglies. I believe that banning books is ridiculous and an insult really. Those who ban books are basically saying that we as people do not know how to discern what we do and do not want to read. It's going against our freedom as well. In my opinion, it's also treating high school students as second class citizens. If a parent doesn't want their child to read a certain book, they have the responsibility of monitoring what their child does. Most parents like their children to read and learn about things. I don't believe the people who ban books even took the time to read the books that they've had banned. The reasons for most of the books being banned don't even make sense!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for this giveaway! :)

I'd like the Uglies, and no I don't think all those books should be banned, but there are some that should be scensored in school.
ReplyDeleteI would love to read Uglies~ and I don't believe books should be banned. What you and your children read should be individual choices based on personal growth and choice decided by you and your family~ not someone else.
ReplyDeleteI would want The Hunger Games. I think banning books is ridiculous!
ReplyDeleteI would want The Hunger Games, but I've heard great things about Uglies too. Thanks for having the giveaway!
ReplyDeleteI would love a chance to read Uglies.
ReplyDeleteI would love The Hunger Games. Well I really don't understand much about Banned books.
ReplyDeleteSpeak or Uglies :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the awesome giveaways!
Uglies
ReplyDeleteI think that people should decide for themselves and parents should decide for their young children!
I would love to read Speak. I am a firm believer of a person's right to read what they choose, once they are of a certain age. There are books out there that are not suitable for different age groups, or maturity levels.

I would love to read Catching Fire. Also, books shouldn't be banned...

ReplyDeleteBooks should never be banned, unless they could be physically dangerous (i.e., How to Build a Nuclear Bomb) I already have The Hunger Games, so I would choose one of the others; not sure which one.
ReplyDeleteI would like Speak please. Only parents have the right and responsibility to monitor their children's reading choices and, even then, for a finite period.
ReplyDeleteThanks :)
The Uglies, and I don't think books should be banned.
