There is no cure for being stung. Fiona doesn’t remember going to sleep. But when she opens her eyes, she discovers her entire world has been altered—her house is abandoned and broken, and the entire neighborhood is barren and dead. Even stranger is the tattoo on her right hand—a black oval with five marks on either side—that she doesn’t remember getting but somehow knows she must cover at any cost. She’s right. Those bearing the tattoo have turned into mindless, violent beasts that roam the streets and sewers, preying upon the unbranded while a select few live protected inside a fortress-like wall, their lives devoted to rebuilding society and killing all who bear the mark. Now Fiona has awakened branded, alone—and on the wrong side of the wall.
Facebook / Goodreads / Website / BlogAbout the Author:
Bethany Wiggins has always been an avid reader, but not an avid student. Seriously!!! She failed ninth grade English because she read novels instead of doing her homework. In high school, she sat alone at lunch and read massive hardback fantasy novels (Tad Williams and Robert Jordan anyone?). It wasn't until the end of her senior year that the other students realized she was reading fiction--not the Bible Seven years ago, Bethany's sister dared her to start writing an hour a day until she completed a novel. Bethany wrote a seven-hundred page fantasy novel that she wisely let no one read--but it taught her how to write. Since then she has completed six more novels, each one a little better than the one before. The fifth book she wrote, "SHIFTING," is represented by Marlene Stringer of the Stringer Literary Agency, and will be published by Walker Books September 27 2011!!! (Visualize happy dance (: )
ALSO if you want a little taste for the book here is a SNEAK PEEK @ STUNG :
CHAPTER 1 I don’t remember going to sleep. All I remember is waking up here—a place as familiar as my own face. At least, it should be. But there’s a problem. The once green carpet is gray. The classical music posters lining the walls are bleached, their brittle corners curling where the tacks are missing. My first place ribbons are pale blue instead of royal. My sundresses are drained of color. And my bed. I sit on the edge of a bare, sun-bleached mattress, a mattress covered with dirt and twigs and mouse droppings. I turn my head and the room swims, faded posters wavering and swirling against grimy walls. My head fills with fuzz and I try to remember when my room got so filthy, since I vacuum and dust it once a week. And why is the mattress bare when I change the sheets every Saturday? And where did my pillows go? My stomach growls and I push on the concave space beneath my ribs, against the shirt sweat-plastered to my skin, and try to remember the last time I ate.
