I actually worked for the US Forest Service in the Youth Conservation Corps—like Benz when I was 17. There were so many crazy adventures, they were the inspiration to have me create the book--and maybe some of the way things were for Benz are the way I wish they'd been for me.

3) Okay, when you saw the cover to your book, what was your initial reaction?

---

I really liked it even though Benz’s boots aren’t purple. I thought it went really well and fit my audience and I LOVE the knife in the tree.

4) Is there a song you could list as the theme song for your book or any of your characters?

---

Benz would love “Hey Baby” (the Crazy Frog version) since she’s wishing all her good lookin’ ranger-types would want her to be their girl.

5) What is one of your most favorite Quotes?

---

“Stay true to the dreams of your youth.” I got in a fortune cookie once and it’s been stuck to my desk right at eye level ever since.

Sara V. Olds has been telling stories for as long as she can remember. One of her favorite memories is of unfolding a tale for friends while they were all bundled in sleeping bags watching a comet shower in the Uintah Mountains.

Mother of three: Large, Medium and Small, she welcomes her newest role, that of mother-in-law. Life has taken her from thither to yon and back again—she's moved 22 times during her marriage.
