making my comeback

Hey there! It's been so long since I've connected with you all through blogger and I'm slowly re-learning all the code I haven't used in so long. I haven't been off the grid exactly but I have tried to get my life back together. I kept posting on Instagram for a while after I stopped posting on here. Then I stopped posting on that platform too. Again I was doing it for the followers and not because I truly enjoyed it.

I have picked up a lot of new skills since my time on this blog and I'm hoping to share it with you all. I'm going to be re-starting my blog but the focus will no longer be books, instead it will be more focused on my life, my designs, and my travels. Really just a place where I can show off my work and all the things I love.

As of writing this I have no "official" job. For the past four years I have been a secretary/personal assistant in a law office. I loved having a steady job but unfortunately I hated working with a careless and toxic environment. While working there I also realized I have a lot of skills and knowledge people would pay for. I've never been one to back down from a challenge and even though no one wants to be unemployed, I see it as a blessing. With the time I'll have I'll be able to concentrate on what I truly love and not just work to get by. As well as rebuilding my mental and physical health that I completely ignored. I have a lot of passions and interests but as we all know life can suck the energy right out of us and I never really had time for all the things I loved.

I used to design blogs for free back in the day. I was terrible at designing but I still did as much as I could with my limited skills to help other bloggers. Through the trust and opportunities others gave me, I met so many amazing people and blogs that helped me grow my skills immensely. I'm thankful to them for giving me the opportunity because thanks to them, I started a tiny design business called Razzled Star Designs. I closed it down in 2014 because I started working full time but I missed it. I haven't stopped designing sites, I've actually re-branded this blog multiple times in the last 3 years with the intent of re-starting it but work kept getting in my way.

Hopefully this is my last re-branding for this blog. I'm going to be providing you all with tips I've learned from blogging so far. I'm no expert but I know that any great tips are helpful when blogging. I'm also setting up an official business to provide my design services. ALSO I am not going to do giveaways like I used to, instead I am going to pick a comment every month from all my posts here on the blog and on my Instagram, so follow me, and give people some personalized blog/Instagram/Twitter/YouTube/Facebook reviews & tips to improve.

In one sentence: A seriously impressive, swoon-y, addicting, and fresh contemporary YA novel.

Long Version: Since this is an ARC, I'll keep it spoiler free. As someone who rarely reads contemporary ya/na books, this book was was overall amazing, with the exception of one minor thing at the start of the book. Going into the book I was pretty unsure of what I would find. The story sounded interesting and the main character was on the plus side.

Out of the many things I liked, one of the things i loved about this book was that i could relate to Libby and Adam. There stories are so different and yet they really do understand and support each other. Libby is dealing with getting over a guy that only liked her physically and Adam has been through a lot of hard sh*t in his young life. Adam was tough on Libby and was 100% honest with her and yes he came off as a jerk but he was just intense because he cared for Libby, a lot. Libby kinda frustrated me at the start of the novel because she couldn't see how Owen, her college boyfriend, was using her. At points she knew he was treating her bad but she made excuses, and I felt just as angry and upset as Adam. There romance was well done too, it wasn't insta-love and it just felt right. They had there intense moments and their sweet.

Another aspect I love were the supporting characters. I haven't read the first book but I might give it a go because all of Libby's friends on the Science Squad seemed so chill and friendly. They were witty, awkward, and nerdy. They were also brutally honest with Libby and were super concerned with her changes and life choices. As true friends should. Also Libby's parents were the coolest. They were supportive of there daughter and her dad was a pro skier, extremely cool ;)

My number ONE MOST FAVORITE PART OF THIS BOOK WAS ADAM! Seriously where can i find him. He has become one of my favorite characters. Even though he was tough with Libby, he was sweet, understanding, broody, wise, and witty. Since it was in a dual POV, I got to read what was going through his head and I fell REALLY HARD for him. He went through so much but was a responsible, mature, and caring person. He was a true gentleman and ARG!!!! I loved him. It definitely helped that he had tattoos, piercings, and was a skater. No matter what happened he would always be there, really wish Adam was real because I didn't want to finish reading about him. He gave this book a lot of depth and awww filled moments.

Almost to the end there was a scene that quite literally broke my heart, I was where Adam was once and it broke my heart too. I can't say more than that because it would spoil it, but be warned the climax at the end really got to me. I seriously don't know how I made it out of this book in one piece but I did and the aftermath was so well written and every scene was emotion and feels.

In the end, the story Kelly Oram wrote has been one of my favorites. The subject matter is more on the New Adult side but the emotions and relationships are definitely more innocent and relate-able. The characters were all enjoyable and interesting. This is a great book to pick up if you want a good dose of a swoon. 4.5/5 stars!

THINKING ABOUT THE FUTURE OF THIS BLOG...

YUP. I am feeling the shame...of neglecting this blog. I took a bit of time off back in July and honestly I thought I would read a bit and come back rejuvenated but...so far this break has left me a bit empty. I am not reading as i used to and on top of things I have been getting sucker punched by life. School....*shiver*...school. I've tried to brave things out but I was honestly considering dropping the "I QUIT" post, that bloggers tend to post after MONTHS in a cell of no inspiration for content.

Recently I have taken up bookstagram and want to try Booktube. I LOVE BOOKS. It's just the reading component is missing at the moment. I also wonder how many people care what I think, or look at what i post. I spend HOURS coding this place and every post takes me forever. I am a perfectionist, nothing can go wrong in a post, even a comma in the wrong place creates havoc in my world.

I don't know when i'll be inspired again but I want to keep this blog, with this name. I considered changing the name too, to match my youtube and instagram accounts but decided I have to much history with this name and i would never change it for the world.

On more happier tone, I have started my own monthly book Subscription Service called, LOVINGLY BOOKISH! I will have more info about that in a future post (I am scheduling posts! Which i never do, YAY!) solely about that story with a few giveaways too!

But Dave has a secret: he's broken rule #8, never pine silently after someone for the entirety of high school. It's either that or break rule #10, never date your best friend. Dave has loved Julia for as long as he can remember.

Julia is beautiful, wild and impetuous. So when she suggests they do every Never on the list, Dave is happy to play along. He even dyes his hair an unfortunate shade of green. It starts as a joke, but then a funny thing happens: Dave and Julia discover that by skipping the clichés, they've actually been missing out on high school. And maybe even on love.

In one sentence: Full of witty characters, crazy drama, finding yourself, and love!

Long Version: Since this is an ARC, I'll keep it spoiler free. Let me just say that I could not stop reading this book, the writing and the characters really kept me hooked to the story. I normally don't read any contemporary books because they have lots of cliches, but this was a book full of first never making them, and then breaking that rule and doing those cliches.

I loved the first half of the book, then around 3/4 of the book it went into New Adult territory, which i don't mind but for younger readers there definitely should be a warning somewhere in the summary to let them know that there is some sexual content. Then after that in the last quarter of the book everything had a less joyful tone because of certain things that happened ;) My emotions were definitely taken on a wild ride. Also liked that Julia and Dave got there own POVs.

I loved Dave and Julia, both were funny, witty, and very close. At first I was meh about Julia but once I got to read through her eyes, I got a more complete view of her emotions. I loved the friendship they had and the connection they felt for each other, nothing felt forced and they were really sweet with each others, as friends. There was a lot of confusing emotions in that small 3/4 part of the book with these characters. I loved the side characters too! Like Dave's brother Brett.

In the end, nothing went as it should have or as i expected but i ended up enjoying the ride this book took me on. A really enjoyable summer read that kept me grinning. If you've read the book then you'll get the gif below, loved the ending!!

Adi Alsaid was born and raised in Mexico City, then studied at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas. While in class, he mostly read fiction and continuously failed to fill out crossword puzzles, so it's no surprise that after graduating, he did not go into business world but rather packed up his apartment into his car and escaped to the California coastline to become a writer.

In one sentence: A crazy, funny, unexpectedly enjoyable fan-girl ride!

Long Version: I ended up really enjoying KILL THE BOY BAND and the story way more than I was actually expecting. Normally I don't read fan girl stories because they are pretty cray and too obsessive? While there was definitely the crazy aspect in this book, there was also a lot of other elements that make this book particularly less crazy and more well rounded than most.

This book follows the events of one day in which a group of four friends: Isabel, Apple, Erin, and Sloane ; end up with a member of there favorite boy band. The story is told from Sloane's POV and she seemed like the most down to earth one, while the rest of her friends varying through different levels of obsession with the boy band.

SOMEONE DIES. I mean it's in the title, so you can expect that to be part of the story but really what I liked was that at the start, there is no one dead, which kind of makes you wonder : how will this person die? When? Where? Who did it? In that aspect it had an air or mystery but I didn't feel it to be the most important aspect.

All of the characters I liked except for Rubert P, or the useless member of THE RUBERTS, who was a complete DOUCHBAG. There were points I thought maybe he'll be nice or something but NOPE. In his situation I can kinda see why he wouldn't be to happy but really there was no stop to him. Which made what happens to him easier to handle.

One thing I didn't expect to find was romance. I liked that it was nicely put in a way that actually rounded out the story and the characters and wasn't so outrageously forced. I loved how the book was written and the HUMOR! I really had fun reading this. It was full of witty retorts, funny scenes, and ridiculously crazy events. I looked like a fool grinning to myself on the bus.

One of the things that I didn't like was that Sloane, even though she was pretty tame compared to the rest, she had a few opportunities to escape the situation. She even acted on leaving but then stayed. The girls also did some pretty mean and evil things to a certain member. Then the ending was again pretty anti-climatic. We learn who the killer is and I was definitely surprised. But in the end no one believes a fan girl and nothing happens, the killer is not even investigated...and life moves on.

There is definitely ups and downs but overall I did enjoy the book. The fan girl aspect was way more on the crazy-ridiculous side, I loved the writing, and the smidgen of romance we get. I wouldn't buy the book when it comes out but I will definitely be getting it from the Library to re-read and will be looking forward to more books by this author. Wish i could say more BUT it doesn't come out until FEBRUARY 2016!! @_@ I don't want to spoil it too much ;)

Woah, this book sounds so crazy! I mean, keeping the peace by having hostages...that is a scary world. Then if there's a war, you kill them... What really hooked though, was the part where it says they dragged Elián to school in chains O.O On top of that he sounds like the more sane one in that place because who would actually agrees to this crazy system of peace. Any who, I am still crazy to read it and will be looking forward to it in September!

Before you begin reading this review, take into consideration that I've just read the most mind-numbing novel ever. Readers discretion is advised.

Stupid question but did anyone's' STRANGER DANGER ALARM RING IN THERE HEAD at all with this ridiculous relationship? For those who haven't read it, tell me your opinion on this: A guy who all of a sudden becomes stalker-like after seeing you at the grocery store, follows you to your car, bombards you with personal questions and then punches a car after you meet is consider dreamy? No? Well that's not what our leading lady thinks.

With the way the author gives voice to Sky, it makes it her sound shallow because, as she describes him, "he's totally hot" even though he goes crazy over the weirdest things. While it is explained further into the book why he acts this way, it still doesn't make sense that she can't see that the way he is acting is scary.

I'm worried about the message that comes across having such a brainless heroine as a lead in this novel. In no way should it condone a man being possessive, aggressive nor explosive towards a woman and her just be submissive. This is completely not okay.

The fact that Sky is suppose to be this strong girl who stands up to her tormentors but then faints like an idiot after a guy grins at her is just beyond me. Does it make sense that a girl who knows NOTHING about a guy, will allow him to not only treat her like his possession but also to turn into HULK mode and not be creeped out? For any girl reading this (or guy), this is not romance. This is not love. This isn't even respect, it's an unhealthy relationship and you deserve better.

I'm very disappointed with this because It had so much potential! There were moments in the book were I saw the potential of development, moments that were warm and fuzzy but ultimately got ruined. Hopeless is truly hopeless. Overall 2 Stars.

WOW, can I just say that by the time I was at the part with Ben in the summary, a tear escaped me. I don't know why it just did. I don't read books like this often because I tend to get emotional but I really want to read this one because there's some light in the darkness for Maggie. Really excited for this and I like the addition of Mason too ;) I just know I'm gonna get some feels reading this when it comes out.
